Rock Band Unplugged

This game is very fun and well executed. i was skeptical about playing rock band on a handheld since activision did a bad job at making guitar hero for the nintendo ds. with guitar hero on tour, you hold a mini guitar in a cramp inducing way while tapping the touch screen to strum.

gameplay: 9/10
this is a fun game, it might take time to get used to especially since it is very hard to get 5 stars. the gameplay is similar to amplitude where you hit buttons on the psp to play the music, and it is up to you to keep a combo going, you switch from track to track playing phrases, when a phrase is finished, the particular instrument will play on its own. if you keep flunking a phrase, you will find that the other tracks will stop playing on its own. from my experience it is easy to recover and using overdrive really helps the band out alot. there is also band survival mode which offeres a whole new level of challenge, where all instruments are going at the same time and it is up to you to make sure none of them fail out. so if you keep ignoring a particular instrument, it will fail out, and when an instrument fails out, it is pretty difficult to recover it especially in survival mode.

sound/tracklist: 10/10
this game comes with music already found in the rock band series mostly consisting of rock music, which is good. i have always had an interest in playing those amplitude style games but avoided them due to the bad selection of music. amplitude games usually consist of boy/girl band music that uses artificial instruments, the type of drug inspired trashy stereotypical teenage girl music from bands like freezepop. although rock band unplugged comes with one freezepop song, i do not have a problem with it, on occasions, i do like to listen to freezepop, but there should be a 1:40 ratio for songs like that in rock band, so for every 40 songs in a rock band game there should be one freezepop song, anymore and it would be overdoing it.

the sound quality is great on the psp speakers and even better with headphones, i was not expecting much sound quality on a handheld, but it surprised me on how rich the sound quality was.

graphics: 8.5/10
the graphics for the menus and in game notes and track are great, it runs very smoothly and the notes are so rich and detailed, it does not look like a cheap handheld port except for the player models. the player models are a bit rough on the edges, but with the wide variety of clothing you can buy for your band mates, it sort of makes up for it. sometimes when you scroll down too fast, multiple options get highlighted.

features: 7/10
this is where the game suffers the most, no multiplayer of any kind plus using the game modifiers makes the game unable to save until you restart your psp. in the past if you enhabled than disabled the game modifier, it would automatically reload the latest saved game which prevented the game from saving ONLY while the cheat was turned on. i feel like the game punishes you for using harmless modifiers like "no solos" plus there is only 3 cheats and you cannot add anymore, i will the game credit that it has the unlock all songs code, that way you do not need to spend hours playing in tour mode in order to explore the more challenging songs for a while. Playing in tour mode is very fun and when i unlock a song in tour mode, i play it in survival mode and try to get a high score.
this game does have a music store too, so you can expand your library more, there is one free track called "still alive" the other tracks cost .

overall this game is great, if you loved the songs in rock band for the console, you will love the rock band unplugged songs, it takes time to adapt to the controls, but it is worth it.

Usually ships in 1-2 business days.
